The weekend is just around the corner and if you don’t have plans yet, there’s no need to worry: get ready to have the best weekend in Chicago. Assuming that you’re not escaping on a weekend getaway, we’ve gathered a long list of things to do in Chicago during your two days of freedom. Take advantage of your respite from the daily grind with our guide to the best things during this weekend. And don’t forget to set your alarm for Monday morning!
1st- Eat A Badass Brunch
First things first, a person gotta eat! When it comes to brunch time, Chicago takes the meal to another level. Brunch at the best Chicago USA restaurants means inventive takes on eggs Benedict, perfectly done brunch classics like waffles and pancakes and well-crafted Bloody Marys to kick-start your day. And it’s not just restaurants—some of the best bars in Chicago also serve up noteworthy brunches. And for any brunch haters out there, we have one word: breakfast.
2nd- Walkthrough a Chicago park
The Chicago Park District maintains more than 600 facilities throughout the city, ranging from wee neighborhood playlots to the vast lakeside grounds of Grant Park, Lincoln Park, and Jackson Park. The city’s green spaces offer fitness classes and workout facilities, culinary training, community meeting rooms, art and music instruction, summer day camps for kids and rec leagues for adults, cultural programming including free concerts, outdoor movie screenings, summer Shakespeare in the sun—and sometimes just a simple respite from the stress of the city. Where to start? Leaving aside Chicago’s beaches (unfair advantage, honestly), these are some of our favorite city parks.
3rd- Learn something new at a museum
There’s no shortage of world-class institutions throughout our neighborhoods, including collections dedicated to contemporary art, natural history, and science that are among the best attractions in Chicago. Are you an interior design lover? Are you a Science lover? Chicago museums got your back! Whether you take advantage of a free museum day or pay full-price for a ticket, you can pack an afternoon with incredible sights, amazing artifacts and interesting knowledge at these destinations. Get ready to learn something new when you visit these Cultural places.
4th- Have lunch at one of Chicago’s best restaurants
Chicago’s best restaurants come in many shapes and sizes, from fine dining heavyweights and chef-fueled newcomers to mom-and-pop sandwich shops and fan-favorite pizza joints. At times, it can feel like there too many great options. But this dining scene shows no signs of slowing down, so we cut to the chase and picked our essential Chicago restaurants (Pequod’s Pizza and Fat Rice)— the ones you must check out whether you’re visiting for the weekend or you’ve called the city home for decades.
5th- Go see a concert
Chicago may not have a fancy nickname to express just how great of a music city it is, but the bounty of concerts and music festivals that take place here speaks for itself. When the weather is warm, there’s at least one festival every weekend in Chicago. And no matter what time of year it is, a true music fan will appreciate the dive bars, the dance clubs, the blues clubs, the amphitheaters, the arenas and the jazz clubs that host amazing performers every day. There’s so much going on here that it can be hard to keep track of—that’s where we come in. Before you go out to a show, take a look at our month-by-month picks of the best upcoming concerts in Chicago.
6th- Show off your karaoke skills
Some workdays call for reinforcements in the form of beer, a microphone and your favorite 80’s power ballad on the karaoke machine. Chicago has plenty of places where you can show off your vocal prowess while enjoying a few beverages, including wood-paneled dive bars and neon-lit private karaoke rooms in downtown Chicago. There are even a couple of places that keep the sing-alongs going until 4 am. If you’re prepared to listen to “Total Eclipse of the Heart” a few times, we’ve tracked down the top karaoke bars in Chicago.
7th- Thrift Shop a LOT
If you went to America and didn’t thrift shop, did you really went to America?? Thrift shop in Chicago is true treasure troves, where you can find secondhand clothes, old furniture begging for a DIY project or even a hidden designer label or two. The thrill of the hunt keeps the best thrift stores thriving, not to mention giving us a place to donate our own gently used goods.
8th- Dance The Night Away
While some of the city’s most legendary clubs have been turned into restaurants, there are still plenty of places to hear dance music in Chicago. If you’re looking for a place to cut loose, enjoy some bottle service and show off your moves, get in line at the best nightclubs and dance clubs in Chicago. There’s no much to say about this last topic, other than ENJOY YOURSELF!
