If you don’t know this already, this year, International Women’s Day is welcoming a very special theme to celebrate. 2019 campaign theme is all about #BalanceforBetter. It’s not just about today, but it starts today. It’s a rule that should be applied to your day-to-day basis. We should fight for balance in order to live in a better world.
From grassroots activism to worldwide action, we are entering an exciting period of history where the world expects balance. We notice its absence and celebrate its presence.
This amazing campaign doesn’t end on International Women’s Day, as we previously told you. This sensitive theme provides a unified direction to guide and galvanize continuous collective action, with #BalanceforBetter activity reinforced and amplified all year.
The main goal for 2019 is to build a gender-balanced world. Balance is not a women’s issue, it’s a business issue. The race is on for the gender-balanced boardroom, a gender-balanced government, gender-balanced media coverage, a gender-balance of employees, more gender-balance in wealth, gender-balanced sports coverage … Gender balance is essential for economies and communities to thrive.
Collective action and shared responsibility for driving a gender-balanced world is key. International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women – while also marking a call to action for accelerating gender balance.
A fun fact you should know is that the first International Women’s Day occurred in 1911, supported by over one million people. Today, the March 8th celebration belongs to all groups collectively everywhere.
Is the day we celebrate the greatest women that helped make this world a better place by fighting for their rights and never be quiet. We celebrate Frida Kahlo and the iconic phrase that inspired millions across the world:
Feet, what do I need you for when I have wings to fly?
We celebrate Mae Carol Jemison, an American engineer, physician, and NASA astronaut that became the first black woman to travel in space.
The level of confidence women are able to build in women-only groups is important.
We celebrate Yoko Ono that has been an activist for peace and human rights since the 1960s.
A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is a reality.
We celebrate Malala, the girl that has been fighting for education against everyone and keeps fighting today with millions of people by her side.
No struggle can ever succeed without women participating side by side with men. There are two powers in the world; one is the sword and the other is the pen. There is a third power stronger than both, that of women.
We could be all day mentioning the ones that brought us at where we are today. But let’s just keep in mind that there’s a lot of people across the world fighting and doing something remarkable to change the mindset that has been around for so many years regarding women rights. Today we say ‘YES’ to having a balance between genders. We have to be together and walk in the same direction. We’re ONE.
Women rights are not women issues, they’re everyone’s issue.
